From Southern California to the Philippines, a partnership worth writing down properly

Some client work asks for a press release. This one asked for a story.

Rowland Water District has built a working partnership with Norzagaray Water District in the Philippines, supported through the Asian Development Bank. Utility operators from two very different systems have been trading knowledge about infrastructure, service delivery, and the daily practicalities of getting clean water to people who are counting on it.

The district’s Myra Malner sits at the center of that exchange. The material was rich enough that a standard announcement would have wasted it.

So we wrote it long. A narrative feature with scene, character, and the kind of specificity that makes a reader believe a place exists. It ran to several thousand words and took the time to explain why a water district in Southern California would invest attention in a municipality eight thousand miles away.

Public agencies are often advised to keep communications short. Sometimes the right call is the opposite. When the story is genuinely unusual, length signals that the work mattered enough to record.
